Many RV’s, motorhomes, and personal trailers also have this requirement. If your gross combined weight rating is over 26,000 you likely need an upgraded license. I go over some of the highlights for the two states I’ve familiar with and how easy it is to get a license upgrade. So the rumor of needing a motorhome license or special license is indeed true in many states. In North Carolina and many other states, a special Class license is required to drive large Motorhomes and 5th wheel trailers that exceed 26,000 lbs. You may not need a CDL for personal use but that doesn’t mean you don’t need a license upgrade even for RVs. In many states, a higher class or endorsement is required which isn’t related to CDL operations. Always check your state’s laws before purchasing or upgrading RV’s. Never listen to the salesman. Ram Upgrade. Towing beast! My experience towing, on the upgrade from Single Rear Wheel Dodge 2500 to a Dual Rear Wheel Ram 3500. Towing both a tag-along trailer and fifth wheel toy hauler.
